Frequently-Asked Electric Vehicle Questions

Where Can I Charge My Ford Electric Vehicle?

You can charge your Ford EV or Plug-In Hybrid at home using a standard 120 Volt outlet (known as Level 1 charging) or have a 240 Volt wall box installed. If you're traveling, the BlueOval Charge Network gives you access to thousands of public chargers, including DC Fast Chargers. You can also see a map of available chargers in Michigan here.

How far can I travel on a single charge?

It can vary by model, drivetrain, and battery pack, but on average, roughly the same distance as a tank of gas. For example, the extended-range Ford Mustang Mach-E and Ford F-150 Lightning can travel up to 320 miles of EPA-estimated range.

How does cold weather affect the battery?

Michigan's freezing temperatures can temporarily reduce the efficiency and range of lithium-ion batteries. However, in cold weather, drivers can use the preconditioning feature, which warms up the battery and cabin while the vehicle is drawing power from the grid.

What is the lifespan and warranty of the battery?

Ford protects all EV batteries with a dedicated 8-year / 100,000-mile warranty that guarantees the battery retains at least 70% of its original capacity.

How long does it take to charge an EV?

Charging times will depend almost entirely on the power source. A standard 120V household outlet (Level 1) takes anywhere from 8 to 20+ hours. A 240V home charger (Level 2) can fully replenish a vehicle overnight. A public DC Fast Charging station (Level 3) can boost the battery from 10% to 80% in as little as 30 or 60 minutes.

Do Ford EVs require oil changes?

Nope! Electric vehicles operate in a fundamentally different manner than internal combustion engines, and will never require oil changes. There is some required maintenance, but it's not nearly as frequent.

Are electric cars less expensive to maintain?

Yes! Because they have fewer moving components, no spark plugs, and reduced brake wear due to regenerative braking, scheduled maintenance costs are generally 30% to 40% lower than traditional gasoline vehicles.

Do EVs qualify for tax incentives?

It depends, and this answer changes based on current laws. Talk with your Borgman sales associate to learn what the current incentives are and how to make use of them.
