Do you have a Need for Speed? Do you dream of on-track or off-road racing? Check out the latest news from Ford’s Performance Racing program. The Ford Performance Racing School has left Utah Motorsports Campus to operate at two separate sites in the United States. The racing school will be split into two different programs: pavement/track-based and off-road programs. This, in turn, creates Ford Performance Racing School East and Ford Performance Racing School West. The East campus will be located in Concord, North Carolina, at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The West campus will still be in Utah, but at a new facility in Tooele. It doesn’t matter which facility you are at, the experience is promised to be outstanding! Ford’s eastern facility will put the in-field track, the oval, and the dragstrip into good use. The onsite buildings will support the Ford’s racing school and guests for various programs such as the GT350 Track Attack and ST Octane Academy. The new western campus will included classrooms, offices, and a vehicle maintenance center. Students should expect an abundance of mountain routes and desert trails for the Raptor Assault off-road program. It also serves as a new training ground for Michelin and BFGoodrich. All activities associated should be up and going within the beginning of 2020. Ford’s pavement-based schools will be ready to begin in Spring 2020.

Ford has teamed up with Roush to help the annual Experimental Aircraft Association’s 2019 AirVenture air show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, auction off a one-of-a-kind “Old Crow” Mustang GT. The “Old Crow” Mustang replicates Col. Anderson’s P-51 Mustang fighter plane with it’s sleek color scheme and custom badging. “Ford and Roush Performance are helping build the next generation of aviation through their support of EAA, AirVenture and The Gathering,” said Jack J. Pelton, EAA CEO and Chairman of the Board. While this will be the highlight of The Gathering, it will also help EAA reach out to those who are pursing their dreams to become a pilot. “Ford is proud to team up with Roush Performance to honor Col. Anderson and all of the brave servicemen and servicewomen who risked their lives during World War II, all while raising funds for the Experimental Aircraft Association, which helps make flying more accessible to America’s youth” said Craig Metros, the design director at Ford. The “Old Crow” will be on display July 22-28 at the EAA’s AirVenture show for all guests to get an up close look before being auctioned on July 25 at the EAA AirVenture – The Gathering. All profits made will be donated to the EAA’s aviation programs which help train our future American pilots.

Borgman has been proud to represent Ford in Grand Rapids for almost 60 decades. One of the things that sets Ford apart is the company’s commitment to the environment. A great example of this is Ford’s Cherry Hill Farm in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where they teamed up with veterans to create a brand new home for honeybees. Through the program, they’re helping veterans acclimate back into civilian life through Ford’s Heroes to Hives while also maintaining honeybee populations, local ecosystem, gardening and farming communities in many states.

Ingrao started a therapeutic beekeeping program in 2015 with just a handful of other veterans. It has now been evolved into Heroes to Hives which is a unique nine-month program offered through Michigan State University Extension that addresses financial and personal wellness of our veterans through professional training and community development centered around the art of beekeeping.

“It’s a privilege for all of us at Ford to be able to provide something to help our veterans,” said Wright.

Ford Cherry Hill Farm was once used as a testing site for the Ford tractor division. It is now the newest location for Ford’s Heroes to Hives. Ford is dedicating five acres of Cherry Hill Farm to the program. There will be pollinator-friendly plants to support not just honeybees, but other pollinators too.

The colonies increased in size over the winter and the Ford bee population multiplied to allow a controlled split. When a hive is split, it allows the bees to continue to multiply and it prevents potential swarming. There was enough bees to start a total of five new colonies from the original hives. All of the harvested bees will go to Ford’s Cherry Hill Farm to help veterans as part of the Heroes to Hives.

Seat Belt Safety

If you own a 2019 Ford Ranger, the latest safety feature called Belt Monitor does it all for you: lets the driver know which passenger isn’t buckled in, an if there is a faulty belt, you’ll know right away. While many other 2019 Ford models will begin to sport this helpful feature, the older models require standard checks. Before you hit the road or loan your car to your teenager, make sure all the seatbelts are working; and if you’re the driver, make sure everyone is buckled before leaving the parking lot. Mustang lovers in West Michigan may want to tune into the UK Goodwood race on July 4th this year. Ford is slated to make an “exciting” Ford GT announcement to kick off the race. This year, the 760 hp Mustang Shelby GT500 will make its UK debut on the Goodwood hill climb. The Shelby will be in good company. Ford returns to Goodwood this year with an exhilarating line-up of vehicles tackling the 1.16 mile hill climb, including:

To ensure rear seat passengers stay buckled up, every Ford Ranger is equipped with an innovative safety technology called Belt Monitor. The feature alerts the driver if a second row passenger unbuckles and indicates which seat they’re in.

Ranger’s Belt Monitor is the first rear seat belt reminder system to debut in Ford’s truck lineup. First introduced on the 2018 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator, Belt Monitor will roll out across the entire North American lineup over the next few years.

  • The all-new Ford Ranger brings other smart driver-assist technologies, advanced passenger convenience and connectivity features like standard automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and 4G LTE Wi-Fi with connectivity for up to 10 devices.
  • Ford Co-Pilot360TM technologies like Lane-Keeping System and class-exclusive Blind Spot Information System with trailer coverage are standard on Ranger XLT and Lariat trim levels. Additional driver-assist technologies including adaptive cruise control and forward and reverse sensing systems are available on XLT and Lariat trucks.

It’s every motor vehicle innovator’s upcoming obsession: C-V2X, or cellular vehicle to everything technology. Imagine driving in a Ford, knowing that your vehicle has the ability to communicate with other connected users on the road about traffic updates, pedestrians and bikers, and road statuses-in the long run, you (and your vehicle!) are creating a safer, more efficient environment on the road. The Two Ideal Connections on the Road

There are two advancements Intelligent Transportation Society of America is working on: the first goal is to weave C-V2X innovations with other wireless technologies to allow communication between vehicles and others on the road including pedestrians and cyclists; the second is to implement a blockchain-based system that assists vehicles at intersections to negotiate efficient traffic flow. These two approaches would allow everyone on the road to have foresight about what’s ahead and experience less traffic congestion.

The first goal: to allow communication between all road users. Take the following example to understand how the technology will work. It’s not uncommon for drivers in busy, urban areas to overlook or miss pedestrians, scooter riders, cyclists both on the road and as they’re crossing the street. With C-V2X technology, a rider with a Bluetooth-enabled phone can both send and receive information about their location to ensure it’s safe to cross. Multiple wireless communication tools include Bluetooth, C-V2X equipped vehicles, and other short-range communication channels including GPS mounts, traffic signals, and cell phones.

The second goal: to reduce congestion and accidents at intersections. In this example, we have four C-V2X equipped vehicles approaching a four way stop-if it’s dark, or in the case of future autonomous vehicles, it may get tricky gesturing to other cars or determining who has the right away. With C-V2X, each vehicle would be notified with a STOP or GO signal inside their vehicle based on who approached the intersection first. This reading and communication occurs effortlessly while working with other C-V2X infrastructure in the city.

To perform at full potential, the C-V2X technology will have to be implemented within the grand transportation ecosystem in each city. With everyone on board, including government agencies and other automakers, all drivers, riders, walkers, and city/state/federal vehicles and services are more apt to utilize the technology. This could raise the bar for connectivity on the road-a connectivity that’s committed to safety, efficiency, and stability. Recycling has become part of the American culture, but did you know that recycling has also become part of your Ford vehicle? Ford Motor Company released numbers earlier this month that revealed that they use about 250 plastic bottles per vehicle—totaling around 1.2 billion recycled plastic bottles per year—as their way to step toward sustainable products that don’t sacrifice performance. Chances are, the bottles will be found in your underbody shield to encourage aerodynamic driving and reduced cabin noise. From Bottle to Underbody 

Ford design engineer Thomas Sweder explains that not only do water bottles contribute to a more sustainably made vehicle, but it also increases performance by reducing the weight of the vehicle. “The underbody shield is a large part, and for a part that big, if we use solid plastic, it would likely weigh three times as much,” he said. “We look for the most durable and highest performing materials to work with to make our parts, and in this case, we are also creating many environmental benefits.”
Wondering how it works? From your recycling bin at home to the commercial recycling facility, then shredded into small pieces that is packaged as bulk and sold to suppliers. Those suppliers turn it into a fiber through high temperatures and extrusion. The complicated part combines those fibers with other types of fibers, applies a textile process that creates a sheet of material—this sheet is then molded into the automotive parts that Ford uses.

The environmental impact is exciting for Ford—by using a material that undergoes this recycling process, Ford is helping to reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in our oceans or landfills. If the material meets desired specifications for rusticity, performance, and durability, why wouldn’t every company use it? “Ford is among the leaders when it comes to using recycled materials such as this, and we do it because it makes sense technically and economically as much as it does for the environment,” Sweder said. Earlier this year, Ford Motor Company introduced the F-600 at the Work Truck Show in Indianapolis. The new chassis cab truck has gained a lot of attention for the role it plays in Ford’s already robust lineup of work vehicles—combining big truck capabilities of the F-650 and compact performance of the F-550, the F-600 is the maneuverable, intermediate, class 6 truck that answers the demand from customers. The Truck 

Joining the lineup as the intermediate go-to, the F-600 is a full Class 6, up to 22,000-pound, chasse cab truck that comes with Ford’s 10-speed TorqueShift automatic transmission with live drive power takeoff option. Customers have the option of a 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel engine or the new 7.3-liter gasoline V-8, will experience Ford’s upgraded brakes and chassis components, and 19.5-inch wheels to achieve the maximum Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). According to Mike Pruitt, the truck’s chief program engineer, the F-600 is the “right size, with the right power, and the right technology to tackle America’s toughest jobs.” 

To complement the F-600’s big-truck features, it has the assist technology of Ford’s smaller Super Duty lineup for maximum approachability. Available driver-assist technology includes automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning automatic high beam headlights; the additional standard elements of Ford Co-Pilot360 haven’t gone anywhere and include adaptive cruise control, Blind Spot information system, side sensing, forward collision warning, and front and rear split-view cameras. With the comfort of these assist technologies, adding new drivers to your fleet is simpler and safer — lowering training and operating costs in comparison to big truck handling.
